A Multiscale Approach to Axon and Nerve Stimulation Modeling: A Review

Electrical nerve fiber stimulation is a technique widely used in prosthetics and rehabilitation, its study from computational point of view can be useful instrument to support experimental tests. In the last years, there was an increasing interest modeling neural cells numerical simulations on fibers because usefulness forecasting effect electrical current stimuli delivered tissues through implanted electrodes, design optimal stimulus waveforms based specific application (i.e., inducing limb movements, sensory feedback or physiological function restoring), evaluation properties according characteristics nerves surrounding tissue. Therefore, review main frameworks adopted investigate peripheral important drive future research works.
